Greenlight Pinellas takes another leap forward!

This past week, the Pinellas Suncoast Transit Authority (PSTA) board took a major step on November 20 by formally endorsing the Greenlight Pinellas plan. Greenlight Pinellas is a comprehensive transportation expansion plan that would eliminate the property tax as the main source of funding for public transit in Pinellas County and replace it with a one percent sales tax. The plan also includes various bus service improvements, lays out the groundwork for future passenger rail services, and will also assist in roadway and pedestrian facility improvements.

Among other highlights of last week’s developments, changes in the draft ballot language were made to clarify what voters would be asked to vote for next year. The phrase “light rail” was replaced with “passenger rail”, which expands rail discussion to possible commuter rail connections with other areas such as Tampa and the northern counties.

I will have a blog post up in December that highlights the successes of the Greenlight Pinellas plan thus far and what challenges remain ahead for the new year.

Feasibility studies launch for an eastward extension of the Paris subway Line 10.

For a while now, it has been highly speculated that the Line 10 of the Paris Metro will one day be extended beyond its current eastern terminus at the Gare d’Austerlitz railway station. The STIF has voted to begin feasibility studies to extend the Line 10 to the municipality of Ivry-sur-Seine, with a possible second extension towards Vitry-sur-Seine.
